Woman sues Northbrook shopping center for injuries from fall

A Lake Forest woman has sued the owner of Northbrook Court Shopping Center, alleging an injury after she fell on a walkway.

Jane A. Ryan, of Lake Forest, filed suit May 5 in Cook County Circuity Court, against General Growth Properties Inc., which operates the Northbrook Court Shopping Center.

According to the complaint, on April 8, 2014, Ryan was visiting the shopping center when she tripped and fell due to uneven concrete paving slabs outside, causing an injury she claims makes her unable to attend to her normal duties and affairs, and which she asserts will result in continuing medical expenses..

The plaintiff brought the action against the shopping center operator for "installing and maintaining the path the plaintiff tripped on in an unreasonably dangerous and unsafe way; failing to make reasonable inspection of the walking path; directing Ryan to leave the center into an unsafe condition; failing to keep a safe entrance and exit; failing to supervise and coordinate employees to fix the walkway; and failing to repair the path."

Ryan seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs. She is is represented by attorneys Joseph R. Marconi and Brian C. Langs, of Johnson and Bell in Chicago.
