Three medical firms sue over unpaid bills for treatment of workplace injury

Three medical practices have sued a patient to collect an alleged unpaid debt stemming from treatment she received for a workplace injury, for which she had filed a workers compensation claim.

Marque Medicos Farnsworth, of Aurora; Medicos Pain and Surgical Specialists, of Chicago; and Ambulatory Surgical Care Facility, of Aurora, filed suit May 5 in Cook County Circuit Court against Olga Lopez.

According to the complaint, on July 26, 2011, Lopez sustained a workplace injury, and from Sept. 1-Dec. 15, 2011, she received treatment from the plaintiffs. On Sept. 16, 2011, the suit says, she filed a workers' compensation case, and over several months failed to respond to the plaintiffs' requests for information about the compensation claim.

Because she failed to keep an open channel of communication with the plaintiffs, they cite state law in seeking to collect an unpaid debt from the defendants, the suit states.

Marque Medicos seeks a judgment against Lopez of $13,889; Medicos Pain and Surgical Specialists seeks $8,879; and Ambulatory Surgical Care Facility seeks $15,336. The plaintiffs are represented by attorneys Douglas R. Johnson and Katherine A. Rehan, of the Law Offices of Douglas R. Johnson in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court Case No.: 15-L-4638.
