The widow of the bicyclist killed in a collision with a semitrailer in Rolling Meadows in April is suing the driver of the truck.
Elizabeth Tomasik, as executor of the estate of Konrad Tomasik, filed a lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court alleging negligence and wrongful death against the driver, identified only as Jane Doe.
The suit said on April 10, at about 1 p.m. Konrad Tomasik, 48, was riding his bicycle near the intersection of Wilke Road and Golf Road in Rolling Meadows when the unnamed defendant, whose address is not known, drove her tractor-trailer into Tomasik.
Tomasik died an hour after the collision, the suit said.
The suit claims the truck driver was careless and negligent in failing to reduce her speed, keep a safe lookout, drive at a safe speed, be cautious and keep her vehicle under control. The suit also alleges the truck diver was following too closely.
The lawsuit alleges three civil counts against the driver, including negligence, loss of consortium and violating the state's Wrongful Death Act.
The suit cites grave injuries to Konrad Tomasik and the loss of his support, money, companionship and love. The suit seeks damages of more than the court's minimum jurisdictional threshold, plus costs and expenses.
Elizabeth Tomasik is represented by D. Patterson Gloor, Stephen P. Ellenbecker and Sarah K. Lickus, of the Gloor Law Group in Chicago.
