A woman is suing Jewel Foods, alleging negligence in a 2013 incident.
Deborah Gray filed suit May 12 in Cook County Circuit Court against Jewel Food Stores Inc., headquartered in Itasca, claiming liability in an August 2013 injury.
Gray said she was a customer at Jewel Store No. 3349, at 2520 N. Narragansett Ave., Chicago, on Aug. 27, 2013, when she slipped and fell on the floor due to water that had allegedly accumulated in an aisle in the self-serve vegetable section.
The complaint alleges Jewel was negligent for allowing the water to puddle in the aisle when it knew doing so would create a hazardous condition; allowing the water to remain for an unreasonably long period of time; permitting the plaintiff and others to enter the aisle when it should have known of the danger; and failing to inspect the aisle properly.
Gray alleges physical pain, suffering and diminished capacity to attend to her usual affairs. The plaintiff seeks compensation of more than$50,000, plus attorneys’ fees and costs. She is represented by Luther Franklin Spence and Associates in Maywood.
