An unnamed married couple who paid to store the husband's semen in a local university laboratory is suing after being informed the samples had been thawed due to a procedure failure and destroyed.
John Doe No. 55 and Jane Doe No. 55 filed a complaint on May 20 in Cook County Circuit Court against Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation.
Around April 2012, the defendants maintained cryogenic preservation tanks to store semen and testicular tissue specimens, some of which belonged to John Doe No. 55, who had paid storage fees for their safekeeping, the lawsuit states. On June 3, 2012, he received a letter informing him his samples had been thawed and likely destroyed due to a procedure failure.
The other plaintiff is his wife. The plaintiffs seek unspecified damages, plus costs.
