A woman is suing the Chicago Transit Authority, claiming a bus driver allegedly trapped her in a rear door and dragged her down the road.

Nicole Melton filed a complaint on May 19 in Cook County Circuit Court against the CTA.

Melton was a passenger on a CTA bus near the Kedzie Blue Line in Chicago at 5 p.m. on May 19, 2014, when exiting the bus, the driver closed the rear door on her and began driving away, dragging Melton along the road, she alleges.

The lawsuit alleges the driver was careless and negligent by failing to make sure the rear door wouldn't close on a passenger, to proceed at a safe speed, to keep the vehicle under proper control, to observe Melton trapped in the door before and after driving off, and to adhere to proper care for the passengers.

The plaintiff, citing personal and pecuniary injuries, including medical expenses, trauma, pain and suffering and loss of a normal life, seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus court costs.

The plaintiff is represented by attorney David Nemeroff in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court Case No. 15-L-5085.
