A Cook County woman is suing a grocery company claiming premises liability in a slip and fall accident dating to 2008.

Audrey Harville brought a lawsuit against SVT LLC, doing business as Ultra Foods of Calumet City, on Aug. 6 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging negligence in November 2008 when she tripped on a floor covering.

The suit states that the defendant allowed its premises located at 13001 S. Ashland Ave. to become and remain dangerous to patrons when it negligently placed a defective industrial rug on its floor, allegedly causing the plaintiff to trip and fall on Nov. 26, 2008.

According to the complaint, Ultra Foods failed to properly and adequately repair the rug and the area where Harville fell, inspect the premises, and take action to prevent her injury, such as placing barricades or warnings.

The lawsuit states that the plaintiff suffered pain, anguish, external and internal injuries, has been hindered from attending to her usual affairs and duties, and incurred medical expenses.

The plaintiff demands judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional amount along with attorneys’ fees and costs. Harville is represented by The Law Offices of Rahsaan A. Gordon in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L008042.
