A bicyclist is suing the driver of a vehicle who allegedly struck her while crossing a driveway in front of a hospital.
Candice Watson filed a lawsuit Aug. 7 in Cook County Circuit Court against Gretchen Renfro, of Naperville, Insight: Eating Disorders, Weight Management and Psychological Center, doing business as Insight Behavioral Health Centers, alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, on May 1, Watson was riding her bicycle east on Roosevelt Road on the sidewalk to the north of the street and approaching the driveway to Riveredge Hospital in Forest Park. The suit says Renfro was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse south toward the hospital's driveway, approaching Roosevelt Road, when she drove forward from a complete stop and struck Watson, "causing her to be knocked down onto the ground and pushed into Roosevelt Road."
The lawsuit states Renfro failed to yield the right of way, cross into pedestrian traffic safely, keep an proper lookout, maintain control of her vehicle, slow down or stop in time to avoid a collision, give warning of her approach, and exercise due care. The suit says defendant Insight is Renfro's employer.
Watson seeks damages of more than $100,000, plus costs. She is represented by attorney Barry S. Silver in Riverwoods.
