Cyclist blames bus driver, transit authority for accident

Cookcountycourt

A bicyclist is suing a city bus driver and the city transit authority after allegedly being struck by a bus.

Dylan Scott filed a lawsuit Aug. 6 in Cook County Circuit Court against the Chicago Transit Authority and Derrick Aldridge, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 12, 2014, Aldridge, a CTA employee, was driving a city bus south at the 3800 block of North Broadway, Chicago, while Scott was riding a bicycle south on the same road. While pulling into a bus stop, the lawsuit states, Aldridge struck Scott, causing him injury to his head, neck and back, as well as pain and suffering and medical expenses.

The suit says Aldridge was negligent for failing to keep a proper lookout, see obvious hazards, keep the bus under control, use precaution to avoid a collision, operate at a safe speed, and use the correct lane.

Scott seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs. He is represented by attorney Paul A. Farahvar of Cuisinier & Farahvar in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L008053.
