Driver charged with striking pedestrian

A pedestrian is suing a driver whom she alleges injured her while she was crossing a road in the crosswalk.

Carla Drije filed a lawsuit July 27 in Cook County Circuit Court against Mark R. Abrahamson.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 22, Drije was crossing the road at the crosswalk at 5400 Balmoral Ave., Chicago when Abrahamson was making a left turn in his vehicle through the crosswalk and struck Drije, causing her to sustain injuries, pain and suffering and medical expenses.

The suit alleges the defendant was driving at an unsafe speed and failed to keep a proper lookout, decrease speed, yield the right of way and honk his horn.

Drije seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs. She is is represented by attorney Paul McMahon of Costello, McMahon, Burke & Murphy in Chicago.
