Family alleges neglectful care before woman's death

Fall

A woman's family is suing a nursing home, alleging neglectful care prior to the woman's death.

Franca Gisiner, as executor of the estate of Mari Zaccaria, filed a lawsuit Aug. 5 in Cook County Circuit Court against Glenview Terrace Nursing Center, and JLR Financial Services Corp, formerly known as JLR Management Corp., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Zaccaria lived at Glenview Terrace from Nov. 15-Dec. 21, 2013, at 1511 Glenview Road, Glenview. The suit says the center documented several "episodes" on Dec. 5, 2013, and Dec. 21, 2013, that Zaccaria had a distended abdomen, abnormal blood work and a poor appetite. The suit says she was transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital where she was diagnosed with septic shock, acute renal failure, fever, dehydration and clostridium difficile infection -- all an alleged result of the defendant's abuse and neglect.

As a result, the lawsuit states, Zaccaria experienced injury, pain and suffering, and an overall deterioration of her condition that culminated in her death Dec. 24, 2013.

Gisiner seeks damages of more than $250,000, plus costs. She is represented by attorneys John J. Perconti, Colleen M. Mixan and Michael L. Shanahan of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L007993.
