Woman sues Takeda over wrongful death and personal injury

Takeda

A woman is suing over claims of personal injuries and a wrongful death against pharmaceutical company Takeda.

Relena Reynolds, as special administrator of the estate of Ozell Reynolds, filed a lawsuit Aug. 6 in Cook County Circuit Court against Takeda Pharmaceuticals USA Inc.; Takeda Pharmaceuticals America Inc. and Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd.; citing negligence.

According to the claim, Takeda Pharmaceuticals practiced careless judgment when releasing the drug Actos for Type 2 diabetes for not releasing full details to its prescribing patients that it could cause bladder cancer, which Ozell Reynolds developed in 2012 and eventually passed away from after being prescribed the drug for long-term maintenance in 2003.

Relena Reynolds is seeking damages of more than $50,000 plus the costs of this suit for Takeda Pharmaceuticals failure to not properly educate its prescribing patients of bladder cancer risks, the claim states.

She is being represented by D. Todd Mathews of Gori Julian and Associates P.C. in Edwardsville.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L008032.
