A patron is suing an East Chicago casino, alleging injuries he suffered after slipping on garbage on the casino floor.

Ahmad Atar filed a lawsuit Aug. 10 in Cook County Circuit Court against Pinnacle Entertainment Group Inc. and Pinnacle Entertainment Inc., doing business as Ameristar Casino East Chicago, Ameristar Casinos Inc. and Ameristar Casino Holdings, alleging negligence and carelessness.

According to the complaint, on March 4, Atar was a guest at the defendant casino, at 777 Ameristar Blvd., East Chicago, when he slipped on debris near the gaming machines, fell and injured himself.

The suit says the defendants failed to maintain a safe gaming floor, allowing debris to litter the floor, allowing the unsafe condition to remain, take measures to protect Atar, conduct regular inspections of the floor area, remedy the problem, warn Atar and others about an unsafe condition, and provide a safe way to move about.

As a result, the lawsuit states, Atar sustained broken bones, cuts, contusions and bruises, disability, pain and suffering, loss of a normal life and earning capacity, and medical expenses.

Atar seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs. He is represented by attorney Vincent Petrosino of Serpico, Petrosino & Di Piero in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L008155.
