A woman is suing a doctor, nurse and Presence Saint Mary of Nazareth Hospital over an alleged misdiagnosis of her glaucoma.
Idalia De Jesus filed a complaint on Aug. 10 in Cook County Circuit Court against Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, doing business as Presence Saint Mary of Nazareth Hospital, Dr. Adam J. Black, nurse Kiersten A. Solis, and Presence Medical Group, citing negligence.
According to the complaint, on Dec. 26, 2014, De Jesus went to the emergency department at Presence Saint Mary of Nazareth Hospital complaining of pain, blurry vision and the sensation of a foreign body in her right eye, the lawsuit states.
Though she was discharged with a diagnosis of conjunctivitis, she went to the emergency department at Wellington Regional Medical Center in Wellington, Fla., on Dec. 31, 2014, and was diagnosed with glaucoma.
The defendants are cited with carelessness and negligence for failing to perform intraocular pressure tests; recognize high pressure in the right eye; order a ophthalmology consultation; and failing to diagnose her properly.
The plaintiff seeks damages of more than $200,000, plus costs.
