Man sues Avenue Care Center over bed sores allegedly developed during stay

Ulcers

A man is suing his former nursing home, Avenue Care Center, for pressure sores he claims he developed while there.

Clancey Wallace filed a complaint on Aug. 5 in Cook County Circuit Court against Avenue Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center LLC, doing business as Avenue Care Center, Extended Care Consulting LLC and Extended Care Clinical LLC.

Wallace was a resident of the nursing home from July 12 to Dec. 1, 2013, the lawsuit states.

At all times, the center was responsible for helping to prevent pressure ulcers from developing on Wallace, and also from deteriorating, with periodic turnings and inspections. As a result of the defendant's alleged failures of neglect, the lawsuit states, Wallace developed pressure ulcers that continued to deteriorate, and suffered pain and suffering, loss of dignity, and medical expenses.

The plaintiff seeks damages of more than $200,000, plus costs.

The plaintiff is represented by Michael F. Bonamarte and Mary K. Volk of Levin and Perconti in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L007996.
