A woman has sued her obstetrician, alleging negligence after she birthed a stillborn child.
Brenda Lynch sued Lori C. Leipold, a physician specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, for negligence in Lynch’s giving birth to a stillborn, Mary Kate Keeley.
According to the complaint, Leipold failed to diagnose signs of preeclampsia, which included elevated blood pressure, recent history of severe lower extremity swelling, and sever headache, at her office in Palos Heights, Illinois on August 13, 2013, when she provided prenatal care for Lynch who was pregnant with her unborn child. She also failed to order a 24 hour urine test, admit Lynch for fetal surveillance in the hospital, and diagnose and treat Lynch’s prenatal complications, the complaint said.
Lipoid told Lynch to return to the office in two weeks. Lynch entered the Christ Hospital emergency room on August 17 with signs and symptoms of severe preeclampsia. Two days later, she delivered a non-viable female baby.
As the special administrator of her daughter’s estate, Lynch seeks damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by John M. Saletta, of the Law Offices of John M. Saletta, P.C. in Chicago.
