Cook County woman blames motorist for husband's death

The wife of a deceased Cook County man is suing a driver, alleging wrongful death when she says the driver struck her husband, causing serious injuries resulting in his death.

Pamela Ramirez, the wife and executor of the estate of deceased Gregory Ramirez, filed a lawsuit Aug. 20 against David S. Cantwell in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging negligence causing wrongful death and willful and wanton wrongful death.

According to the complaint, on April 25, Gregory Ramirez was struck in a crosswalk in Wheeling by a vehicle driven by Cantwell, sustaining serious injuries causing his death. The suit says Cantwell did not exercise reasonable care and caution, was driving at a speed greater than reasonable, failed to keep control of vehicle and was driving at speed in excess of speed limit. It also alleges he failed to keep a proper lookout for pedestrians.

Pamela Ramirez seeks damages of more than $100,000, plus legal costs. The Ramirez family is represented by attorney Steven L. Richards of Richards & Marsh in Skokie.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-063062.
