A Cook County man is suing a medical practice and four doctors, alleging his mother was misdiagnosed and subsequently died from breast cancer.

Terrence Gibson, administrator of the estate of his late mother Bonita Jordan, filed a lawsuit July 31 in Cook County Circuit Court against Advocate Medical Group and four of its physicians: Dr. Vivek Mishra, Dr. Charisa Spoo, Dr. Jeanette Barry, and Dr. Anita Thakadiyil.

According to the complaint, in September 2011, Jordan underwent a mammogram and an ultrasound and  the physicians failed to diagnose her breast cancer at that time. However, the suit says, in August 2013, a subsequent mammogram diagnosed Jordan with breast cancer, which led to her death May 23, 2015.

Gibson seeks more than $50,000 in damages plus court costs. He is represented by attorneys Donald A. Shapiro and Matthew R. Basinger of the Donald A. Shapiro law firm in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-007826.
