Cook County woman sues hospital over alleged obstetric negligence

Swedish

A Cook County woman is suing over claims of violations of the Family Expense Act and mistreatment by a certain physician and Swedish Covenant Hospital.

Melissa Rodriguez, individually and as mother and next friend of Noah Rodriguez (a minor), filed a lawsuit Aug. 21 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Therese C. Wos, Swedish Covenant Hospital and Swedish Covenant Medical Group, citing negligence.

According to the claim, Melissa Rodriguez suffered obstetric medical malpractice while in the care of Dr. Wos and the aforementioned hospital on June 9, 2014, when she had to undergo an emergency C-section for the delivery of her son, who ultimately suffered from permanent brain damage and neurological injury.

Melissa Rodriguez is seeking damages of more than $50,000 for Dr. Wos and the aforementioned hospital’s negligence to not undergo the emergency surgery sooner so that her son's injuries could have been avoided, the claim states.

She is being represented by Bryan Hofeld of Hofeld and Schaffner in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L008611.
