Woman sues building owners over injury claims related to broken door

A woman is suing the owners of the building where she works over her claimed injuries from using a broken door.

The plaintiff, Nicolette Comerford, filed suit Aug. 5 in Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division, against the defendant, Harbor Group Mangement Co. on one count of negligence. Harbor Group owns the building in question, located at One South Wacker in Chicago.

The plaintiff claims that before and after Dec. 1, 2014, the defendant neglected to repair the broken switch that operated the automatic door at the building’s handicap entrance. This alleged negligence forced the Comerford to open the door herself, which plaintiff claims caused her to suffer repetitive stress injuries, including a torn rotator cuff and other shoulder. The claim also states that a repair of the door was attempted, but the results were inadequate.

The Chicago firm of Susan E. Loggans & Associates PC is representing the plaintiff, who seeks damages of more than $50,000.

Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division case number 2015-L-007990.
