A DuPage County man is suing University of Illinois Chicago, alleging it retaliated against him for his testimony in a lawsuit against the employer.
Clifton Heard, of Woodridge, filed a lawsuit Aug. 3, in Cook County Circuit Court against the University of Illinois Chicago Board of Trustees.
According to the complaint, Heard, a UIC campus police officer since 2009, gave written testimony in a case that two co-workers, Sgt. Timothy Spangler and officer Anthony Robinson, had filed against the university. Spangler and Robinson alleged racial harassment and racial discrimination against the university. After Heard testified, he said he faced several disciplinary actions from the University Police Department that he alleges were in retaliation for his testimony.
Heard seeks more than $50,000 damages, plus all litigation costs and a permanent injunction to stop further retaliation. He is represented by attorneys Uche O. Asonye and Franklin Z. Wolf of Asonye & Associates in Chicago.
