A woman is suing a physician and his medical practice over the alleged wrongful death on behalf of her deceased sister.

Kathleen Porreca, as independent administrator of the estate of Jane Moroney, filed a lawsuit on Sept. 23 in the Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division against M. Scott Peckler, M.D. and North Suburban Surgical Consultants LLC, citing medical malpractice.

According to the complaint, Moroney was under the care of Peckler during her admission at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge in September 2013. The plaintiff claims that Peckler failed his duty as a medical doctor when he failed to diagnosis and treat the patient appropriately. The plaintiff claims that Moroney’s death on June 8, 2014, was a direct result of Peckler's failure to diagnose perforation of the patient’s colon.

Dr. Kenneth O'Riordan and Lakeshore Gastroenterology and Liver Disease Institute are named as respondents in discovery in the suit.

Porreca is seeking damages in excess of the minimum amount required by the court. She is represented by Daniel M. Kotin of Tomasik, Kotin, Kasserman LLC in Chicago.
