Family sues nursing home, alleging negligence in relative's death

A Cook County woman is suing a nursing home, alleging negligence and wrongful death in a case involving an elderly relative.

Victoria Mullins, administrator of the estate of William Govensky, filed a lawsuit Sept. 28 in Cook County Circuit Court against Manor Care of South Holland, doing business as Manor Care Health Services-South Holland and nurse Larissa D. Rudloff.

According to the suit, Govensky was a resident of Manor Care between Oct. 9, 2013, and Nov. 28, 2013, with intermittent hospitalizations. During this time, the lawsuit states, he developed sepsis, respiratory failure, pressure ulcers, malnutrition, dehydration, and other physical and mental conditions that contributed to his death Nov. 29, 2013.

The suit says his conditions were the result of negligence on the part of the defendants.

Mullins seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus court costs. She is represented by attorneys Margaret Battersby, Michael Bonamarte and Daisy Ayllon of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.
