The father of a deceased 48-year-old cyclist is suing a company and its driver, alleging negligence in a fatal crash.

Richard Lewis, special administrator of the estate of Robert Lewis, filed a lawsuit Sept. 29 in Cook County Circuit Court against El Popular Inc. and Sandeval Cruz of Chicago under the Illinois Wrongful Death Act.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 2, Robert Lewis was bicycling in the northbound bicycle lane on Kedzie Avenue north of School Street in Chicago. The suit says Cruz, driving a truck owned by El Popular, struck Lewis, who died of his injuries Sept. 11.

The lawsuit states Cruz was speeding and was otherwise negligent in operating the vehicle involved in the accident.

Richard Lewis seeks more than $50,000, plus court costs. He is represented by attorney Nathan J. Marocha of the Law Offices of Nathan J. Marocha in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-009874.
