Guest sues Palmer House hotel, alleging injuries for fall on premises

A Cook County woman is suing a Chicago hotel, alleging liability in a case involving an extension cord.

Patricia Janney filed a lawsuit Sept. 18 in Cook County Circuit Court against the following defendants: Hilton Chicago Corp., Hilton Illinois Corp., Hilton Management, Hilton Worldwide Inc., Palmer House, Palmer House Hilton, Palmer House Hilton Hotel, Thor Equities, Thor Palmer House Hotel, Thor Palmer House JV, Thor Palmer House Retail, Thor Palmer Retail Mezz, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Oct. 18, 2013 Janney tripped and fell on an extension cord left in a walkway near the Palmer House hotel’s grand ballroom while she was a hotel guest. Because of the fall, the suit says, the plaintiff suffered internal and external injuries, lost time from work and medical expenses.

The suit alleges the hotel was negligent in not ensuring its premises were safe for public use.

Janney seeks medical, drug and incidental expenses, plus general and punitive damages. She is represented by attorneys from Goldstein Fluxgold & Baron of Chicago.
