The family of an Illinois man is suing multiple Chicago hospitals and health care centers, alleging they caused injuries that led to the death of a loved one.
Paulretta Porter-Jefferson, administrator of the late Daniel Jefferson’s estate, is suing the University of Chicago Hospitals, Waterfront Terrace, Dynamic Healthcare Consultants and Holy Cross Hospital, alleging negligence and wrongful death.
According to the compliant, Daniel Jefferson, 69, developed multiple pressure sores from not being turned or re-positioned while in the care of health professionals. The suit says Jefferson's medical records were not properly updated, therefore his physician and family members were not informed of the pressure sores.
The suit alleges the sores were allowed to worsen, causing pain and suffering not limited to urinary tract infections, sepsis and more sores. Jefferson also suffered a loss of dignity, self-respect and a poor quality of life before his death Feb. 21, 2014.
Paulretta seeks a total of $300,000 from the health care organizations. She is represented by attorneys Steven M. Levin, Andrew J. Thut, Michael L. Shanahan and Michelle Wesley at Levin & Perconti in Chicago.
