A Cook County physician is suing the University of Chicago hospital, alleging negligence in an operation to repair his right shoulder.
Dr. Maury Topolosky filed a lawsuit Oct. 6 in Cook County Circuit Court against the University of Chicago Medical Center, alleging negligence.
According to the suit, on Sept. 14, 2011, Topolosky underwent an operation to repair his right shoulder at the medical center. During the operation, the suit says, he was given a superclavicular block to control post-operative pain, a procedure that left him with a permanently paralyzed hemi-diaphragm.
The lawsuit states these complications left the plaintiff with difficulty breathing and in need of supplemental oxygen.
Topolosky seeks damages of more than $50,000 for current and future medical expenses, pain and suffering, and lost earning potential, plus legal costs. He is represented by attorney Robert A. Strelecky of Chicago.
