Patient alleges doctors failed to detect wrist injury

A Cook County patient is suing two doctors and two medical facilities, alleging negligence.

Marilyn Zack filed a lawsuit Oct. 7 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Robert Semba, Parkview Orthopedic Group, Dr. William J. Baylis and Parkview Musculoskeletal Institute in Palos Heights.

According to the lawsuit, Semba failed to recognize the patient’s volar subluxation (dislocated joint) during an Oct. 14, 2011, procedure he performed on her wrist. During a follow-up exam, Baylis also failed to detect this injury, the suit says.

After Semba performed additional surgery on Zack on Jan. 4, 2013, she later learned the procedure has prevented her from fully recovering from the dislocated joint, according to the lawsuit.

Zack seeks damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by attorney Nicholas T. Motherway of Motherway & Napleton in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-010231.
