A Cook County woman is suing her health-care providers, alleging malpractice.

Gloria Zachari filed a lawsuit Oct. 8 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Amanda Jones, Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation.

According to the complaint, in early November 2013, Zachari fell and hit her head during occupational therapy to treat back pain. From Nov. 7-15, 2013, the suit says she developed dizziness, confusion and delirium.

When Jones and others observed Zachari had paresis, or limited movement, on Nov. 17, the suit states, they ordered CT and MRI scans that revealed she suffered from two brain injuries, a parafalcine hematoma and a bilateral subdural hematoma.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants were negligent by not taking her off blood thinners when she was first injured, and that they waited 10 days after the onset of symptoms before treating her condition. The suit says she suffered severe, permanent injuries, including disfigurement and disability, and will owe future medical expenses.

Zachari seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus legal costs. She is represented by attorney Ryan E. Yagoda of Kralovec Jambois & Schwartz in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-010289.
