A retired Chicago police officer is suing the city, alleging wrongful termination.
James A Maurer filed a lawsuit Oct. 13 in Cook County Circuit Court against Aviation Commissioner Rosemarie Andolino, Ellen O’Connor and the city of Chicago.
According to the complaint, in 2005 Maurer, a former city police officer with 41 years of service, was appointed to serve as managing deputy commissioner for safety and security for the Department of Aviation, including O’Hare International and Midway Airport.
The suit says after Andolino's appointment to commissioner in 2009, Maurer's concerns and reports on airport security vulnerabilities were systematically ignored by the defendants. Maurer alleges he was forced to resign in October 2009 after commenting on a training session he attended.
Maurer was also named as a defendant in an employment discrimination lawsuit against the city of Chicago. The suit says the city refuses to indemnify him in this lawsuit in retaliation for bringing his own action against the city.
Maurer seeks a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000, including costs of this litigation as well as the other suit in which he is a defendant. He is represented by attorney Keith L. Hunt of Hunt and Associates in Chicago.
