A Cook County woman is suing a health-care team, alleging malpractice in the death of a 50-year-old patient.
Veronica Lee, independent administrator of the estate of Kim D. McKenzie Young (deceased), filed a lawsuit Oct. 22 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Y.M. Shah doing business as Primary Care Joliet, Dr. Yatin M. Shah, Dr. Paramjit Sikand, nurse Jody Druhe and unknown physicians nurses and medical personnel relevant to the case.
According to the lawsuit, throughout 2013 Young was a patient of Primary Care Joliet, treated by Shah, Sikand and Druhe for complications related to an enlarged lymph node and asthma. Although Young’s blood pressure was apparently high on several follow-up visits (also noted by a home health worker), the suit says the defendants discouraged her from seeing a cardiologist and failed to treat the hypertension. The lawsuit alleges Young’s death from a heart attack Oct. 22, 2013, was a result of the defendants’ negligence.
Lee seeks more than $50,000 in damages, plus legal costs She is represented by attorney James A. Karamanis of Barney & Karamanis in Chicago.
