A group of Cook County health care providers is suing health insurance giant Cigna and other health-related businesses, alleging embezzlement and insurance fraud.
Nearly a dozen health care providers, Dr. Vijay Goyal and Dr. Vinod Goyal filed a lawsuit Aug. 31 in Cook County Circuit Court against Cigna Healthcare of Illinois and a dozen other insurers/health centers. The other defendants are Elmcare, Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, GE Healthcare Holdings, Ingalls Health System, Elmbrook Nursing, Benefit Administrative Systems, Access Community Health Network, Lincolnway Medical Associates, Guardian Healthcare & Hospice, Advocate Health Partners, Advocate Health Centers, Silver Cross Managed Care Organization and United Healthcare Serivces.
According to the complaint the plaintiffs sustained a theft of millions of dollars by three former employees, Irina Nakhshin, Inna Koganshats and Boris Koganshats, who were hired to post medical insurance payments via computer software for the plaintiffs. The suit says the thefts occurred between 1992 and 2013.
The plaintiffs seek a jury trial and recovery of the embezzled funds from the original payers of the claims. They are represented by attorney Jaime Zeas of the Law Offices of Jaime Zeas in Bethesda, Md.
