A Cook County man is suing his wife’s doctors, alleging misdiagnosis of her breast cancer.

Jason Burke, special administrator of the estate of Jill Burke, filed a lawsuit Oct. 26 in Cook County Circuit Court charging Dr. Magdy Awad, alleging negligence. Dr. Ahmed Farag is named as a respondent in discovery.

According to the complaint, Awad failed to order a biopsy and proper follow-up care after Jill Burke underwent a mammogram for a suspicious mass in December 2012. The suit says the delay in diagnosis allowed the cancer to spread to her brain and spinal cord despite attempts to treat it with chemotherapy. Burke passed away Oct. 27, 2013.

Burke seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus legal costs. He is represented by attorney Edward G. Proctor Jr. of Munday, Nathan & Schulkin in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-010826.
