A Cook County woman is suing a Cicero tavern owner, alleging negligence for personal injuries she says she suffered at a Halloween party.

Jasmine Chatman filed a lawsuit Oct. 27 in Cook County Circuit Court against Al’s Restaurant & Pizzeria Inc., Alessandro’s Banquets and Al’s Italian Restaurant, as well as their unidentified employees, Veronica Elem and unidentified assailants.

According to the complaint, on Oct. 31, 2014, Chatman was injured in an alcohol-fueled fight that broke out during a party at Alessandro’s Banquets, 6050 W. Cermak Road, Cicero. During the altercation, the suit says, Elem and unidentified assailants caused bodily harm to Chatman by stomping on her, striking her with fists and feet and throwing objects at her.

The lawsuit blames the tavern’s owners for not hiring adequate security and for serving alcohol to Elem and the unidentified assailants, whose attack cost Chatman medical expenses, left her permanently disfigured and caused her to lose wages. Elem and the assailants are charged with battery, and the tavern’s employees are accused of failing to stop the fight.

Chatman seeks damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by attorney Justin M. Weinrich of The Weinrich Law Firm in Barrington.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-010865.
