Cook County woman blames nursing home for death of 96-year-old woman

Assisted living

A Cook County woman is suing a Bensenville nursing home and its owners, alleging negligence in the death of a 96-year-old relative.

Constance Spatafora, independent administrator of the estate of Eva Stathopoulos, filed a lawsuit Aug. 28 in Cook County Circuit Court against Bridgeway Senior Living and Midwest Senior Ministries doing business as Bridgeway Christian Village.

According to the complaint, Stathopolous developed several pressure ulcers on her body while living at Bridgeway in Bensenville between 2013 and 2015. The suit states the wounds became infected and required treatment, the costs of which Stathopolous would have been entitled to recover were she alive. The plaintiff asserts Bridgeway’s negligence allowed Stathopolous to develop the wounds.

Stathopolous died May 2.

Spatafora seeks a six-person jury trial and damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by attorney David M. Resis of The Law Offices of Steven J. Malman & Associates in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-008890.
