Woodstock tenant sues landlord, alleging negligence for injuries after blizzard

A Woodstock woman is suing her landlord, alleging it failed to maintain safe conditions on the property’s walkway and parking lot after a snowstorm.

Elisa Mendiola filed a lawsuit Aug. 25 in Cook County Circuit Court against Oakbrook Corp. and Langton Snow Solutions, individually, and doing business as Langton Group Landscaping.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 28, 2013 Mendiola slipped and fell on ice at the property at 1430 Woodstock Commons, Woodstock. The suit says her injuries caused pain and anguish, lost wages and large sums for medical care, now and in the future.

The lawsuit states the defendants were responsible for the property and were negligent by not removing the snow, failing to apply salt and warning pedestrians of safety risks.

Mendiola seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus litigation costs. She is represented by attorneys Marc A. Taxman and Julie L. Pustilnik of Anesi, Ozmon, Rodin, Novak & Kohen of Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L008655.
