A Cook County patient is suing a Chicago nursing facility, alleging violations of the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act.
Kenneth Knighten filed a lawsuit Aug. 24 in Cook County Circuit Court against Southpoint Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Infinity Healthcare Management of Illinois.
According to the complaint, Knighten resided at Southpoint in Chicago between March 27, 2012, and Sept. 5, 2013. The suit says Southpoint staff failed to monitor Knighten’s urinary catheter and neglected care of his gastric tube, which became infected, and neglected to prevent him from developing pressure ulcers, which also became infected while he lived at the facility.
Knighten seeks a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000. He is represented by attorneys Michael T. Mertz and Brian J. Holmes of Hurley McKenna & Mertz in Chicago.
