A Kankakee County man is suing a medical supply company, alleging it manufactured a defective replacement joint implanted in his hip.

Russell D. Hartman filed a product liability lawsuit Aug. 17 in Cook County Circuit Court against Wright Medical Group Inc., Wright Medical Technology Inc. and Wright Medical Europe. Also named as defendants are the distributor, Biomedical Associates Inc. in Lemont, and its president, James Bloom.

According to the complaint, on Nov. 17, 2008, Wright Medical’s Profemur hip replacement system was implanted in Hartman’s arthritic hip and the device was removed approximately five years later when the stem prematurely fractured and injured the plaintiff.

The suit alleges the defendants knew the Profemur had an inherently unstable, defective design, but did not take it off the market.

Hartman seeks a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000. He is represented by attorney Peter J. Flowers of Meyers & Flowers in St. Charles.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L008373.
