CHICAGO–About 70 U.S. and European passengers aboard a Boeing 777 that had engine trouble are suing the aircraft maker, alleging negligence related to their injuries.
Approximately 70 plaintiffs from the United States, Ireland, Germany and Great Britain filed a lawsuit Nov. 25 in Cook County Circuit Court against The Boeing Co. and GE Aviation Systems, alleging manufacturing defects and lack of proper inspections.
According to the complaint, on Sept. 8 all plaintiffs were aboard a British Airways Boeing 777-236 ER plane when blade, disc and thermal stress in a compressor caused the left side engine to fail. The suit says the engine burst into flames upon attempted takeoff from Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport, forcing the passengers to evacuate under emergency conditions.
The plaintiffs allege physical and psychological injuries, lost earnings, plus current and future medical bills.
The plaintiffs seek compensation for their injuries, plus litigation costs. They are represented by attorneys Floyd A. Wisner and Alexandra M. Wisner of the Wisner Law Firm in Geneva.
