CHICAGO–A Cook County man is suing Presence Resurrection Medical Center and several nurses and doctors, alleging malpractice after his wife died from complications during childbirth.

Omar Hernandez, independent administrator of the estate of Leticia Lara, filed a lawsuit Nov. 23 in Cook County Circuit Court against Presence Hospitals PRV, Presence Resurrection Medical Center, Dr. Heider Shuber, Dr. Anthony Rizzo, Dr. Andrew Dennis, Dr. Victor Trinkus, Dr. Ramsis Ghaly and Cook County doing business as John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, alleging medical malpractice and wrongful death.

According to the complaint, Lara had a history of vaginal bleeding and passage of blood clots in the weeks before she delivered a baby Nov. 28, 2013. When she developed post-partum bleeding after the delivery, the suit says, the defendants gave her a hysterectomy and a blood transfusion and sent her to intensive care.

The lawsuit states doctors later discovered her bowels and abdominal structures had been damaged by thrombosis, or obstructed blood flow and she was pronounced dead Nov. 28, 2013.

Hernandez seeks a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000. He is represented by attorneys Keith A. Hebeisen and Sarah F. King of Clifford Law Offices in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court Case number 2015-L-011937.
