CHICAGO– A tenant and landlord have settled the tenant's lawsuit accusing the landlord of installing a video camera in a smoke detector.

Lee Reemsnyder had filed suit Nov. 23, 2015, in Cook County Circuit Court against Kamal Bosamia, alleging intrusion, infliction of emotional distress and breach of implied warranty of habitability.

According to the complaint, Reemsnyder said he discovered a camera inside a smoke alarm in the room he rented in the 2400 block of W. McLean Ave., Chicago. The complaint indicates Reemsnyder reported the incident to the Chicago Police.

The plaintiff alleges the camera captured intimate footage of himself with others, without his consent.

According to Cook County court records, the case was settled in 2016 before Reemsnyder presented evidence to support his allegations.

Reemsnyder's complaint had sought damages of more than $50,000. He was represented by attorney Martin D. Gould of Romanucci & Blandin, of Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court Case number 2015-L011960.
