CHICAGO–A Cook County couple is suing numerous health care facilities and physicians, alleging the wife’s OB/GYN failed to timely detect and treat her breast cancer, reducing her chances of survival.

Marta Mocek and Mariusz Kolbusz filed a lawsuit Nov. 19 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Michael C. Szczupak, Women’s and Children’s Healthcare Associates, Dr. Frank K. Liao, Dr. Phillip L. Cacioppo, Dr. George G. Kuritza, Edgebrook Radiology Management Services Inc., Dr. George G. Kuritza, Radiology Associates, Dr. Michael J. Racenstein, Elk Grove Radiology, Midsuburban Radiological Associates and Alexian Brothers Medical Center Inc., alleging medical malpractice.

According to the complaint, the defendants failed to order a biopsy and other appropriate treatment for Mocek after the discovery of a left breast nodule in November 2013, shortly after the birth of her first child. The delay in treatment has allowed the cancer to spread, the suit says, endangering Mocek’s life.

Mocek and Kolbusz seek a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000. They are represented by attorney Rebecca Neubauer of Romanucci & Blandin in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court Case number 2015-L011812.
