Son alleges DuPage Hospital's negligent care caused father’s death

Hospital

CHICAGO – A Cook County man is suing a DuPage County hospital, alleging the failure of nurses and staff to follow surgeon’s orders caused his father’s death.

Raymond Weiland, independent administrator of the estate of Gerald Weiland, filed a lawsuit Dec. 16 in Cook County Circuit Court against Central DuPage Hospital, doing business as Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, alleging negligence and wrongful death.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 19, 2014, Gerald Weiland was admitted to DuPage Hospital for removal of his left lung due to cancer. Although the surgeon gave explicit instructions on how to position the patient in recovery, the suit says, the DuPage staff failed to follow directions.

As a result, the plaintiff alleges his father passed away from the resulting injuries Dec. 31, 2014.

Weiland seeks damages of more than $50,000. He is represented by attorney David R. Barry Jr. of Corboy & Demetrio PC in Chicago.
