Firefighter’s widow accuses contractor Anilroshi of wrongful death

Electrical fire

CHICAGO – A Cook County woman whose husband died battling a fire is suing a contractor, alleging it violated safety rules, causing his death.

Julie Capuano, special administrator of the estate of Daniel Capuano, filed a lawsuit Dec. 17 in Cook County Circuit Court against Anilroshi LLC, alleging wrongful death.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 14, Daniel Capuano, a city of Chicago firefighter, was battling a blaze in a brick commercial building on Baltimore Avenue. The suit says he fell to his death down a two-story elevator shaft into the building’s basement.

The plaintiff alleges Anilroshi, general contractor of the building’s ongoing remodeling, violated OSHA rules by failing to supply fall protection around the shaft and neglecting to warn occupants about open holes in the building’s second level floor.

Julie Capuano seeks damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by attorney Robert J. Napleton of Motherway & Napleton LLP in Chicago.
