Customer accuses Jewel Food Stores of unsafe conditions

CHICAGO – A Cook County woman is suing Jewel, alleging it failed to provide a safe means of entering and exiting one of its Chicago stores.

Shawna Olwen filed a lawsuit Dec. 22 in Cook County Circuit Court against Jewel Food Stores Inc., alleging premises liability.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 1, 2014, Olwen fell while trying to enter the store at 1224 S. Wabash St., Chicago. The suit says she suffered injuries to her head, neck, shoulders, leg and foot, as well as exacerbation of fibromyalgia and other pre-existing conditions.

Olwen seeks compensatory damages for her injuries and medical expenses, plus litigation costs. She is represented by attorney S. Jerome Levy of S. Jerome Levy & Associates PC in Chicago.
