Attorney accuses colleague of mishandling divorce case

Divorce crush

CHICAGO – A Cook County man is suing his lawyer, alleging legal malpractice in a dispute involving the handling of the plaintiff's divorce.

Martin B. Robbins filed a lawsuit Dec. 11 in Cook County Circuit Court against attorney Paul L. Feinstein and his eponymous firm, Paul L. Feinstein Ltd., alleging legal malpractice.

According to the complaint, Robbins, also an attorney, hired the defendants in 2010 to handle the dissolution of his marriage. The suit says when Robbins questioned how Feinstein was handling the case two years later, Feinstein withdrew as counsel only weeks before the divorce trial.

As a result of having to hire a new attorney unfamiliar with the case, Robbins alleges it damaged his defense. The suit also states the defendants mishandled the plaintiff's case before withdrawing as counsel.

Robbins seeks damages of more than $50,000, with the exact amount to be proven at a jury trial. He is represented by attorneys Jeffrey O. Katz, Michael D. Haeberle and Elise Yu of The Patterson Law Firm LLC in Chicago.
