Patient accuses Mount Sinai Hospital of faulty jaw implant

7209

CHICAGO – A Cook County man is suing a Chicago hospital and two surgeons, alleging they botched surgery to repair his broken jaw.

Mack Riggins filed a lawsuit Dec. 23 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. David Morris, Sinai Health System, doing business as Mount Sinai Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital Medical Center of Chicago and Dr. Mazen Harake, and Biomet Orthopedics LLC, as respondents in discovery, alleging negligence and medical malpractice.

According to the complaint, in December 2013 Riggins came to Mount Sinai Hospital for treatment of a broken jaw, including the implantation of Biomet fixator plates with locking screws. The plates were designed to position the jaw to avoid further injury, the suit says, but the defendants failed to properly implant the devices.

As a result, the lawsuit states, the plaintiff suffered acute and prolonged physical and mental pain and has become liable for great sums of money for medical expenses.

Riggins seeks damages of more than $50,000. He is represented by attorneys James A. Karamanis and Kenneth A. Nazarian of Barney & Karamanis LLP in Chicago.
