Wife accuses The Villa at Windsor Place of husband's wrongful death

Head injury

CHICAGO – A Cook County woman is suing a Chicago nursing home, alleging negligence and delayed treatment of her husband’s stroke caused his death.

Florine Lewis, independent administrator for the estate of Levi Lewis, filed a lawsuit Dec. 29 in Cook County Circuit Court against The Villa at Windsor Park and Rehab Center LLC, alleging violations of the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act.

According to the complaint, while Levi Lewis was a resident of The Villa, 2649 E. 75th St., Chicago, from September to December of 2013, he suffered from a needless and preventable pressure sore to his buttocks as well as a fall from his bed.

The suit says Lewis began experiencing difficulty with speaking and hearing, plus other cognitive symptoms, the defendant’s staff failed to render appropriate treatment. When Lewis was later admitted to Jackson Park Hospital, he was diagnosed with a stroke and passed away Dec. 29, 2013.

Florine Lewis seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus litigation costs. She is represented by attorney Jeffrey Schlapp of the Schlapp Law Group LLC in Chicago.
