Daughter blames South Suburban Rehab for father’s death

Dementia

CHICAGO – A Cook County woman is suing a Homewood rehabilitation center, alleging negligence in her father’s death.

Brenda Bouquet, independent administrator for the estate of Louis Wright, filed a lawsuit Dec. 28 in Cook County Circuit Court against South Suburban Rehabilitation Center LLC in Homewood, alleging violations of the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act.

According to the complaint, Louis Wright became a resident of South Suburban in November 2013, receiving care for his dementia, Parkinson’s disease, hypertension and anxiety disorder.

The suit says the staff at South Suburban failed to follow the orders of Wright’s doctor, and did not exercise appropriate nursing skills, supervision or assistance in caring for Wright. As a result of South Shore’s negligence, the suit states, Lewis suffered from needless and preventable respiratory distress and pneumonia, which subsequently hastened his death on Dec. 25, 2013.

Bouquet seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus litigation costs. She is represented by attorney Jeffrey Schlapp of the Schlapp Law Group LLC in Chicago.
