Daughter blames Westchester Rehab for elderly mother's death

Medical neglect

CHICAGO – A Cook County woman is suing a Westchester nursing home facility, alleging its neglect led to her mother’s death.

Gladys Finley, special administrator of the estate of Elsie Steele, filed a lawsuit Jan. 4 in Cook County Circuit Court against Westchester Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, alleging negligence, personal injury and wrongful death.

According to the complaint, Steele, a 99-year-old resident of Westchester Nursing and Rehab, developed an unnamed medical condition that caused her death April 8, 2015. The suit says Westchester, a facility licensed in Illinois to provide skilled care, failed to properly assess Steele’s condition.

Finley seeks damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by attorney Timothy McArdle of Vinkler McArdle Frost in Chicago.
